Blooming Riviera
Among the most important events to take place in the beautiful setting of the Riviera del Brenta is the 'Blooming Riviera', a parade on the placid waters of the Brenta River.
In the year 1574 Henry III, king of France, descended along the Brenta Riviera to meet the Doge of Venice at the Contarini Villa dei Leoni. It is this important historical episode that the traditional riverside event of Riviera Fiorita re-enacts, for the twenty-sixth time, Sunday the 14th of September 2004.
The placid waters of the Brenta, with its historical mansions and lush gardens, act as a frame for several hundred vessels, parade boats, 'bissone' and 'caorline', with over 1100 extras, rowers and musicians - all in costume.
The parade sets off at Stra and reaches Mira around 1:00 pm, where the traditional lunch in front of the Contarini Villa dei Leoni takes place.
In the afternoon the show continues through Oriago and Malcontenta to Venice, where the sovereign of France will be given the chance to recover from weariness of the journey.

Gastronomy in Riviera
Today too the gastronomy of the Brenta boasts a variety of winning dishes displaying inventiveness and tradition, both fruits of the earth and seafood. The former includes rural delights such as pork, duck, pheasant, rabbit, game and the fragrant countryside and market-garden greens. The sea flavours begin with the
appetizers: truffles, scallops au gratin, spicy spider crab, mussels, clams, shrimps in sauce, cuttlefish eggs, and oysters. The traditional first course may be risi e bisi (risotto of fresh peas) or one of the countless other types of risotto, fish pie, fish soup. Alternatively there are ancient dishes such as sarde in saor (fried sardines in a sweet and sour sauce), Venetian style cuttlefish, creamed cod and polenta, eels in a light tomato sauce with white wine and garlic, and so on. The sea is nearby, and so you can expect fish grilled and fried, grilled eel, stuffed crabs that attract gourmets from the whole of Northern Italy. And from the hinterland come the Veneto wines.
